Holistic dentistry is an approach to dental treatment, primarily caring for a patient's health and safety from both a conventional as well as "alternative" healthcare point of view. It is sometimes called "biological" dentistry." Holistic dentistry acknowledges that any problems that occur in a patient's mouth can affect his or her overall health and vice versa. The most common concerns for those seeking an alternative to conventional dentistry involve the removal of mercury fillings and replacing those fillings with safe, biologically compatible materials. Amalgam/mercury removal and replacement with natural-looking bonded materials is a common holistic and aesthetic dental treatment. We feel that mercury/amalgam fillings are not only potentially bad for the patient's teeth and body, but they look unnatural as well.
